During the reporting period, The Foundation supported VCCI to deliver 26 business Disaster Risk Management (DRM) coursesto more than 820 people from 539 businesses in nine provinces in the Central region: Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Nghe An, Phu Yen, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, and Quang Tri provinces. Among these were, four cost-shared coursesheld for businesses in Da Nang (2 courses), Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa (2 courses). VCCI also conducted one training workshop on DRM for business associations and local government in the Mekong Delta region (Can Tho Province) with 104 participantsfrom 45 businesses.The Foundation also worked closely with VCCI to organize one business DRM training course for 60 people from 11 business members of 8 business associations in Can Tho Province.
In the Southern region, with support from The Foundation, SMEDEC 2 delivered 6 business DRM training courses for 188 people from 133 businesses in Long An Province (2 courses) and Ho Chi Minh City (4 courses). The Foundation also supported SMEDEC 2 to organize a policy dialogue workshop on DRM for southern business with the participation of 90 people from government and business.
To promote the integration of DRM into existing business training programs in Vietnam, the Foundation supported VCCI and SMEDED2 to conduct two ToT courses for independent business trainers with over 50 participants most of whomare currently running courses for businesses. Following the ToT program, VCCI and SMEDEC2 convened two workshops to gather the trained trainers and other business training centers to discuss integration of DRM for SMEs into current programs at training institutions. The workshops concluded that there is significant opportunity to integrate DRM content into training delivered by private training centers, business associations, and freelance DRM trainers. This was followed by further engagement to integrate business DRM into the training programs of 12training centers in the Southern and 7 training centers in the Central regions. Under the coaching and monitoring of SMEDEC 2,these training institutionshave delivered 20 courses for 531 participants from 170 businesses.
During the reporting period, The Foundation continued supporting project partners to make significant progress to engage businesses in a DRM policy dialogue with Government, public-private collaboration (PPC) and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The Foundation worked closely with CED, DMC, and VCCI to identify PPC opportunities in Nghe An and Da Nang and develop PPC action plan frameworks in DRM for Da Nang city. The framework comprises language on the basic principles of PPP, references to legal documents and other frameworks that support PPP, clarifications of the roles and responsibilities of public and private partner representatives, and an overview of the potential PPC programs and initiatives that can be promoted. More specifically, the framework describes the joint actions agreed to and to be taken by local DRM government agencies led by the Da Nang DMC and local businesses led by VCCI Da Nang. This framework was then presented at DRM PPP Forum in Da Nang city in May, 2014 with more than 70 participants from businesses, business associations, central and local government governments.CSR activities were continued in Nghe An and Da Nang for staff of businesses and school children through training sessions on DRM conducted by VCCI.
This reporting period represents the final quarter of phase III of the project and the first quarter of phase IV.
